Video Transcript for Yates Boat Trailer Y-Style Bow Stop Review

Ryan: Hey everybody, my name's Ryan. And here at Etrailer, we install, test fit, and review a lot of different parts, that way we could try to answer any questions those of you might have. And that's exactly what we're doing here today. We're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the line of Yates heavy duty rubber Y-style bow stops for boat trailers. So a bow stop is a simple, yet pretty important component to have on your boat trailer. It's going to do a couple things.

It's going to help prevent you from overshooting whenever you put your boat back on the trailer, whenever you pull it out of the water. And it's also going to help provide just a little bit of support, a little bit of cushion here in the front, whenever you're towing your boat down the road, that way it's not getting jostled around and hitting any metal, anything like that. It's just going to be there to help keep everything riding nice and smooth. So the reason today that we actually replaced the bow stop is you could take a quick look at the original one, and easily tell that it has seen better days. I mean, this thing is so worn out. It probably really wasn't doing any good up here.

So this one is definitely an improvement, and should make things go a little bit smoother. Now with that being said, this is a really thick, heavy duty rubber. So I don't really see it wearing out super fast. So you should get some good years out of it. With that being said, though, this rubber could potentially leave scuffs.

On this old aluminum fishing boat, really not too concerned with it, but if you have a fiberglass boat, especially, for example, it's something you might want to think about. However, there's another bow stop available, and this one's made from a different material and is scuff proof. So if leaving marks here are something you really don't want, you could always use this as an alternative, and that'll prevent any scuffs from happening. So overall, I actually think this turned out pretty nice. Just give me a little bit more confidence whenever I'm trailering the boat, I'm not going to have to worry about overshooting it as much or anything like that. And just whenever I'm trailering it down the road, the rubber actually contours pretty nicely to the bottom of the boat when you tighten everything down.So it should really provide a good cushion, if you will, whenever I am hitting bumps and things like that.

And just going to do a good job of keeping everything in place. Now, as far as the installation goes, it's relatively simple, really not a whole lot involved. One thing I do want to mention is you may have to pick up some new hardware. Doesn't come included with that hardware. But if your original hardware will work and is in good shape, by all means, you can go ahead and reuse that.So with all that being said, shouldn't take you a whole lot of time and really give you a whole lot of issues whenever you do go to put this on. Speaking of which, let's go ahead and do that together now. To begin your installation, you're first going to want to remove your old stop. So I went ahead and took that off and what I've actually done is just removed the whole bracket itself. And I did that because I think it'll be a little bit easier to get everything set up on here and kind of pushed into place.Ideally, you do this with your boat off the trailer. We're just kind of working around that. So I think it's going to be a little bit easier if I have everything somewhat bolted together, I might have a little more leverage to kind of push this up into place. Now, with that being said, keep in mind, every setup is going to be a little bit different. But for the most part, this should get you pointed in the right direction. So at this point, I'm just going to take our new stop, put it in our bracket, line the holes up. And I'm going to take our bolt, work it through to the other side. And what I think I'm going to do, is just tighten this down a little bit. So once I find where it needs to be, once it's on there, we can come back and tighten our bolt down. So now that we have our setup loosely assembled, I'll go ahead and put it into place here. Again, I think I'm just going to get everything hand tight for now, that way it'll kind of just rest in position, and we can get it exactly where we want it. So I found that everything fit best with our bracket down as far as it can go. And now I can position our bow stop. Now our boat is on the trailer a little bit crooked, once I removed our strap it kind of came over. So this should sit more in the center, but I think once we put our strap back on it, it'll pull everything together nicely. But now I got a good idea on how I need to rotate our bow stop itself. So I'm going to kind of eyeball it. I think about there will be proper, then I'm going to snug it down. So now that we have everything tight, if I put a little bit of downward pressure, it looks like everything fits pretty good the way it should. So now that I'm certain I have it lined up where I want, I'm just going to go ahead and connect my winch back to it, and pull it back down on the trailer. That'll finish up our look at and our installation of the line of Yates Y-style heavy duty rubber bow stops for boat trailers..

The customer service was over the top. I was emailed the status of my order from the time I placed the order through to delivery. Great business that works for you.

I did receive the y-block in the mail a few days ago. It has been cold, even down here in southern Oklahoma, so I did not get to put it on my trailer until today. I works great and I am very pleased with the product. I have included some pictures of the application that I am using if for as a lady named Laure asked for them. I tried to find a block locally, but they all wanted to sell me the entire transom saver and not just the part I needed. This works great and saved me a considerable amount of money. I will order parts again when and if the rollers on my boat trailer need replacing. Thank you!

I looked and looked for this particular product locally but found nothing. Then I turned to Google and found quite a few of the items I wanted in the $15 range, which seemed like too much to pay. That's when I found this item at Etrailer and with postage it was less than that! The service was great. The quality of the product is excellent and it got to my house in record time. What more could a consumer ask for?

The rubber bumpers were exactly as advertised. They arrived well packed and shipped quickly. I looked for these in my local area and could not find them. I shopped the internet and found etrailer.com. The items were reasonably priced, in stock and easy to order.I'm very happy with them and will do business with etrailer.com again.

by:

I received a call stating that my part was back ordered from etrailer and a lady asking if I still wanted it. This is the first time a company has ever done that. Most impressive. They actually got the part to me earlier then they said. Two thumbs up.

by:

I ordered three bow guards. One to replace the one on my baker trailer that broke and caused damage to one of my drift boats. I found your company on the internet, and called and talked with Angie. She was very helpful and friendly, and and took care of my needs completely.

by:

I was very impressed with the great service, excellent products, and end results after assembling my boat trailer with the parts ordered from Etrailer. Shipping was fast. Very reasonable prices. Will definitely order thru this company again and have already referred friends of mine to have them take a look at your site.

by:

No problem with etrailer but USPS is terrible it took 12 days to get package 300 miles for what I payed for shopping there is no excuse for taking that long ups or Fedx would have it in 3-4 days

by:

etrailer saved me with this replacement part, and shipped it at a reasonable cost unlike other stores where the shipping cost was 4 times the price.

  • Bow Stop Recommendation for a 2 Inch Wide Mounting Bracket
We do carry a Y-style bow stop that will fit on a 2 inch wide mounting bracket, it is part # YR4Y22-3. The base of the Y-style Bow Guard, # YR4Y22-3 measures 2 inches wide and accepts a 3/8 inch diameter roller shaft. I have attached a photo showing the dimensions of the bow stop for you to check out. The Yates Flat Bow Stop, # YRJONBLOCK, that you referenced is the only flat style bow stop that we carry at this time and requires a 3 inch wide mounting bracket.

  • Replacement Bow Roller or Stopper For 1999 Mariah Shabah 238 Cuddy Boat Trailer
Many rollers will not touch on the sides at the bow. This is roller that is used more as a cushion. Using a smaller roller like the CE Smith Spool Roller Assembly for Boat Trailers - Galvanized Steel and Black Rubber - 4" # CE10400G may help to have more contact. It sounds like you may be interested in a Y-style bow stop like the Yates Y-Style Bow Stop for Boat Trailers - Heavy-Duty Rubber - 4" Span - 3/8" Shaft # YR4Y22-3. • Bow Stop, Bracket, and Shaft Recommendations for a Boat Trailer
You will need a bracket that has a 3/8 inch diameter shaft. At this time we do not offer a 3/8 inch diameter shaft. I recommend bow stop # YR7Y44-4 used with bracket # CE31005PG and shaft # CE10700A for your bow stop set up.

  • Smallest Y-Style Bow Stop Available
The Yates Y-Style Bow Stop # YR333Y that you referenced features a 6-1/2 inch span. The closest Y-Style bow stop we have available to your current unit is the Yates # YR4Y22-3 which features a 4 inch width between the "Y" contours. It has a 2 inch square base and works with a 3/8 inch diameter shaft. I have attached a short video review on this bow stop that you can check out as well.

  • Troubleshooting Smudge from Yates Bow Stop
Since your Yates Y-Style Bow Stop # YR4Y22-3 leaves a smudge mark, you can use marine grade bunk carpet like # FCR8008 in between to assist. There isn't a glue specifically made for that type of application so I recommend using a solvent based contact cement. There are some non-marking bow stops, but the Yates Y-Style Bow Stop for Boat Trailers - TPR - 6-1/2" Span - 1/2" Shaft - Yellow # YR333Y isn't just an easy swap.

  • How are Bow Guards Mounted to the Boat Trailer Winch Base
Normally, bow guards like the Yates Y-style Bow Guard, part # YR4Y22-3, are mounted to plates that are welded to the winch post. The Yates bow stop # YR4Y22-3 has a base that is 2 inches x 2 inches and a 4-inch span.
